Now time for something completely different. Last week I took my dad to Zeche Zollverein in Essen, Germany, for his birthday. Once this was a huge colemine and is now transformed into an impressive museum about the work that has been done here (and in the rest of the Ruhr area) and is inscribed on the Unesco World Heritage list. I always wanted to do a black/white photoshoot and what is more suitable than the stahl und metall welt of this area? All pictures are taken with my iPhone.

Besides this museum, there are a lot of other things you can do in the area. In this part of Germany there are tons of industrial buildings that are transformed into museums or activity centres you can visit. What do you think of diving in a original Gasometer for example?

There is another Gasometer nearby in Oberhausen, which is used for all kinds of exhibitions and also interesting to visit. Next to the Gasometer you can find a klettergarten, a big shopping mall, a Sea Life Centre and a pretty cool swimming pool.

If you are not too afraid of heights, you could go to the Klettergarten in Bottrop as well.

Ofcourse, there are a lot of other things to do in the Ruhr area. Check out Ruhr Tourismus for more tips and ideas.
